How to Choose Kitchen Lighting

2/11/2017

Kitchen lighting has many roles. First and foremost, it has to be bright: the kitchen is not the place for romantic, ambient lighting! Second, it has to suit the size of the room: a statement piece that brings large custom kitchens to life can overwhelm pocket-sized modular kitchens. Finally, it has to suit your personal style, after all, this is one of the most important rooms of the house.

To help light up your designer kitchens, our Tauranga and Hamilton kitchen manufacturers have put together a list of our favourite kitchen lighting ideas.

Statement Pieces in Large Kitchens

Large kitchens with islands or dining tables can benefit from bold lighting. Here’s some of our favourites.

Orb Chandeliers

Our kitchen designers love chic orb chandeliers in large kitchens. These spherical lighting features add pizazz and make for a great focal point. Orb chandeliers come in endless variety of materials, from glass to wire, wooden to copper finish.

Multi Pendant Lighting

Sometimes one just isn’t enough! Multi-pendant lighting might include two, three, even up to a dozen hanging bulb pendants and they are particularly striking above a long kitchen island. Our experienced kitchen manufacturers can help you choose the best style to match your new kitchen installation.

Industrial Lighting

Our kitchen designers are suckers for industrial vintage lighting. A chunky industrial light fixture that looks like it was plucked from a 1950s warehouse can add a lot of character to the kitchen.

Practical Pieces for Smaller Kitchens

Large feature pieces could end up making a small kitchen looked cramped. Instead, maximise your space with these tips from our kitchen installers.

Downlights

Our Tauranga kitchen designers love downlights in smaller kitchens: they are smart looking and modern, plenty bright and don’t take up precious space.

Contemporary Lighting

You may not have room for a statement piece, but you can still modernise your lighting. Contemporary lighting is all about clean lines, seamless lighting mounts and minimalism – all elements that suit a smaller kitchen.

Eclectic

Small kitchens often allow you to get away with eclectic lighting that wouldn’t suit a larger space. If done right, a brass hanging light over the kitchen sink, a few downlights for brightness and a quirky wall light can tie in together to make for a funky wee kitchen.
